OFFICIAL POST OPERATION REPORT

Weekend Patrol of Bruges and the Ypres Salient

10 August 2002 (cont.)

2100 We head back to Bruges with CPL Henderson in command. He initially takes us the wrong way around a roundabout before heading 180 degrees in the wrong direction. Only the timely intervention on CPL Mullen saves us from ending up in Luxemburg.
2200 The hire car is dropped off, Red Bulls taken and we head back to the Bauhaus. CPL Dermody suggests we play a weird coin game to see who gets first use of the two towels. CPL Henderson ends up aggrieved at the perceived skewness of the game that results in CPL Dermody securing first use. The others call him a poor loser.
2230 Showers commence. CPL Mullen and CPL Dermody with first use of the towels ensure that they are suitably saturated before being passed onto Henderson and Jackson.
2245 The entire party leaves fully dressed. Comments are made regarding the fact that this could never be done if girls were present.
2300 CPL Jackson leads the patrol on a sinuous route through the dark streets of Bruges in search of a mysterious fondue restaurant. After taking a Henderson-esque route he finds it, but the patrol is repelled with the news that the kitchen has closed. This is repeated at several other establishments until eventually we find somewhere still doing dinner.
2330 We sit down for dinner and naively order four 'large' beers. We discover that 'large' means 1.2 litres. CPL Jackson expresses shock but proudly makes his way quickly through it along with the others. Dinnertime conversation is a discussion on the 'top tigers we have parked.'
